What Is CNC Machining?

CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machining is a subtractive manufacturing process where pre‑programmed computer software directs the movement of cutting tools to remove material from a solid block. This creates precision parts from metal, plastic, or other materials.

Unlike 3D printing (additive), CNC machining cuts away unwanted material to achieve the final shape.

How CNC Machining Works

1. Design – A 3D CAD model defines the part geometry, dimensions, and tolerances.

2. Programming – CAM software converts the CAD model into G‑code instructions that control tool paths, speeds, and feeds.

3. Machining – The CNC machine follows the program to cut, drill, and shape the workpiece automatically.

Key CNC Processes

CNC Milling – Rotating cutting tools remove material from a stationary workpiece. Ideal for complex geometries, flat surfaces, and pockets.

CNC Turning – The workpiece rotates while a stationary tool shapes it. Best for cylindrical parts like shafts, pins, and bushings.

5‑Axis Machining – Multi‑direction cutting in a single setup for complex parts with tighter tolerances.

Benefits of CNC Machining

• High precision – Tolerances as tight as ±0.005 inches (0.127 mm) or better

• Material versatility – Aluminum, steel, stainless steel, titanium, brass, plastics

• Scalability – Cost‑effective for prototypes and high‑volume production

• Consistency – Identical parts with minimal variation

Common Applications

• Automotive – Engine parts, brackets, transmission components

• Aerospace – Structural parts, housings, turbine components

• Medical – Implants, surgical instruments, diagnostic equipment

• Electronics – Enclosures, heat sinks, connectors

• Industrial – Gears, shafts, valve bodies

Why Choose Integrated CNC Machining?

Managing multiple suppliers creates delays and risks. We offer integrated CNC machining with in‑house finishing and assembly:

• One supplier for milling, turning, and finishing

• Shorter lead times

• Tighter quality control

• Full traceability
